The Sensor Evaluation Kit (SEK) serves as an example platform to illustrate how to use a Foveon X3 direct image sensor to capture high-quality image data and prepare the data for post processing. The SEK features a Foveon X3 direct image sensor, enabling capture of full RGB image data at every pixel location. Image sensor output is composed of three full layers of RGB image data, eliminating the need for complicated image reconstruction schemes and providing images that are sharper, pixel for pixel.
The SEK contains the hardware necessary to capture 36-bit images and transfer them to your host computer via IEEE-1394 interface. Also included are software applications for capturing and processing both still and video images at a variety of sizes. Image capture at less than full resolution is achieved using Foveon's VPS (Variable Pixel Size) capability, enabling higher-ISO still image output or video output at higher frame rates.
