NI Delivers Three New High-Performance Motion Controller Modules

Feb. 10, 2004 – Factory automation engineers and machine builders can now select a National Instruments PXI-735x high-performance motion controller in three new axis configurations. Complementing the original PXI-7358 8-axis version, the PXI-7352, PXI-7354 and PXI-7356 modules offer 2, 4 and 6-axis versions of the stepper or servo motion controller.

With these options, factory automation engineers and machine builders in need of high-performance motion controllers can benefit from more cost-effective motion control systems by purchasing just the number of axes they require for their applications.

Each PXI-735x module can be programmed using NI LabVIEW, NI LabWindows CVI, NI Measurement Studio for Microsoft Visual Basic, C and C++. The modules also offer additional I/O that includes eight total encoders, 64 bits of discrete I/O and eight 16-bit analogue inputs. In some cases, this eliminates the need to purchase a separate data acquisition module. For applications requiring hardware-timed acquisition or special signal conditioning, each of the new PXI-735x controllers features powerful capabilities for triggering NI data acquisition modules at rates more than 1,000 times faster than previous NI 2, 4 and 6-axis controllers.

Engineers also can increase accuracy and reduce the effects of backlash in their applications by using the additional encoders for special dual-axis feedback, assigning two encoders to a single axis and a sense position for two different parts of the system. These advanced capabilities are ideal for applications such as scanning where position-to-measurement correlation is required.
