This range of actuators have been developed to provide large displacements using relatively small and low cost ferroelectric stacks. They represent an economical approach to obtaining large displacements where high force is not a requirement but high resolution is still desired.
The actuators are enclosed in a stainless steel housing. They use Kinetic Ceramics' proprietary ceramic PZWT-100, which has high unit strain with low hysteresis. Low porosity and high density give high resistance to electrical breakdown providing long life. The patented method of bonding and encapsulation gives excellent mechanical strength and stiffness and suppresses breakdown in high electric fields. When activated, piezoelectric actuators generate no electromagnetic field and require no holding current.
