Acylindrical Lenses

PRINT
BACK

This is a family of cylindrical lenses where at least one optical surface has departure from pure radius. Acylindric lenses are divided in 3 groups depending of lens shape: Plano-convex, Double convex and Meniscus. Each group is sub-divided depending if lenses are optimized to be used in finite conjugates or infinite conjugates configuration. They can be made from different materials. Most frequently used so far are fused silica, BK7, S-TIH53, Pyrex, F2, etc. Acylindric lenses have similar advantages over cylindrical lenses as aspheric have over spherical lenses. Lenses are optimized to reduce different aberrations in order to achieve superior imaging or collimating performances
