For the last few years the automotive industry has particularly developed the automated gluing technique. To permanently improve the quality and save material, the non-destructive test of the adhesive application is now an essential function.
Inspection of the adhesive application consists in checking :
- its quantity
- its width and height are efficiently large to ensure the sealing or bonding function ;
- its volume is adequate for saving material.
- its correct positioning : edge spacing, position with respect to holes (motor assembly)…
- according to its correct shape : inspection of the nozzle, nozzle distance from the glued part…
A choice of technologies can be employed according to the types of the beads :
- 2-D inspection : (fiberised glue-welded joint…)
- 3-D inspection : (sealing strips, extruded glue lines
