Cincinnati, Ohio (July 15, 2004) - The new PCI-1602UP, 1604UP, 1610UP, PCI-1611U, PCI-1612U and PCI-1620U have been upgraded to meet market demands for higher reliability and stability. The upgraded cards support universal PCI connectors for both 3.3 V and 5 V signals, and surge protection for trigger conditions, which ensures that power lines are completely secure.

Complementing its line of PCI Communication cards, Advantech Co., Ltd. presents the new PCI-1602U/1604UP/1610UP/1611U/1612U/1620U, an upgrade from the 2/4/8-port RS-232/422/485 PCI communication cards with surge protection. The main enhancement of the system lies in its Universal PCI connector design, which is compatible with both 5 and 3.3 signal voltages, enabling flexibility for use in diverse system integration solutions.

The surge-protected design shields the system from abrupt high voltages up to 2,500 VDC, while the card’s high performance makes it suitable for temperature, humidity and air pollution controls in rugged environmental monitoring systems. Moreover, the PCI-1604UP and 1611U also support optical isolation to improve signal quality and protect the circuitry of PCs and equipment against damages from ground loops in harsh environments.

In addition, PCI-1602UP/1604UP/1610UP follows the Low Profile PCI MD1 standard. It has the same protocol and electronic definition as standard PCI, but the Low profile PCI card is smaller. Thus, they are suitable for embedded systems, POS machine or any size-constrained environment.

To improve the system performance, the PCI-1602UP/1604UP/1610UP/1611U/1612U/1620U communication card comes with 16PCI952/16PCI954 UARTs with a 128-byte FIFO to reduce CPU load, allowing transmission rates up to 921.6 Kbps.

The PCI-1602UP/1604UP/1610UP/1611U/1612U/1620U is available for Windows? 95/98/2000/NT/ME/XP? and Linux?, with full support for drivers. Advantech also provides a powerful utility program, ICOM Tools, with easy-to-use analysis tools and utilities, to help test the PCI card performance by analyzing the port status. Advantech ICOM Tools acts as a PC-based data scope that lets you set a trigger condition, capture the communication data, and monitor the signal status with its easy-to-use menu commands and toolbar buttons. ICOM Tools is applicable to all series of Advantech ICOM cards.

The PCI-1602UP/1604UP/1610UP is available and the PCI-1611U/1612U/1620U will be available in August 2004. Advantech’s line of PCI cards is ready to meet customer demand for cost-effective universal PCI communication cards.
