Cincinnati, Ohio (March 16, 2005) - Advantech Corporation, Industrial Automation Group is pleased to release a new Industrial-grade Universal PCI communication card, the PCI-1610CU. The PCI-1610CU features four RS-232 ports with solid isolation and surge protection. With a Universal PCI interface, the PCI-1610CU is compatible with both 3.3-volt and 5-volt PCI slots. The PCI-1610CU is a highly robust, flexible and economical choice for any applications that reliable serial RS-232 ports with isolation and surge protection are required.

The industrial-grade design of the PCI-1610CU provides 9-wired RS-232 signaling, 2,500 VDC optical isolation, and 2,500 V DC surge protection to secure host computers from damage due to unexpected voltages. Moreover, the PCI-1610CU can work reliably under critical environments, such as 60° C operating temperatures. It is specially designed for harsh industrial environments.

The PCI-1610CU has a high-performance 16PCI954 UART chipset with a 128-byte FIFO, which reduces CPU communication efforts effectively. It is an ideal choice for heavy multi-tasking environments. The PCI-1610CU provides high-speed RS-232 serial transmission up to 921.6 Kbps and its universal PCI interface ensures that it can be installed in both Industrial PC and commercial PC systems.

Drivers are currently available for Windows® 95/98/2000/NT/ME/XP and Linux.
