Agilent Technologies' New Value Oscilloscopes Offer Colour at Almost 20 Percent Less Cost

PALO ALTO, Calif., April 25, 2005 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced a series of four portable, digital-storage oscilloscopes (DSOs) for about 20 percent less than equivalent products with comparable quality, performance and features. With bandwidths of 60, 100, 150 and 200 MHz, the Agilent DSO3000 Series offers two channels and a colour display with almost 20 percent more waveform viewing area. The oscilloscopes are designed for engineers and technicians in communications, computing, industrial, government, aerospace and defense, and consumer industries as well as educators teaching electronics principles.

"It's good to see Agilent Technologies become a player in one of the larger segments of the oscilloscope market," said Galen Wampler, industry analyst at Prime Data. "Having another top-tier vendor bring quality innovation to the market is especially good for the end user looking for high performance in a value scope. At the low end of the oscilloscope market, the colour display is becoming so important that many users will never buy a monochrome scope again. Agilent's new value oscilloscopes provide colour at very aggressive prices."

"The new DSO3000 Series provides exceptional performance for the price," said Ron Nersesian, vice president and general manager of Agilent's Design Validation Division. "Agilent not only provides colour on every model, but offers features, such as a dual-time base display, that have only been available in more expensive models. Customers now have a clear choice among first-tier vendors in the value segment of the oscilloscope market."

The new value oscilloscopes offer a 1 Gsa/s maximum sample rate, 4k memory per channel and a 5.7-inch display. The front-panel design looks and operates like a typical Agilent portable scope with dedicated knobs for each channel, easy control of the main and delayed time bases, and menu keys grouped by function. An optional software connect package simplifies printing and controlling the oscilloscopes via USB.

Several factors led to the introduction of the DSO3000 Series. Low cost, off-the-shelf technology is now available that enables key performance specifications and makes possible the addition of important extra features such as colour. Agilent has been able to leverage its significant contribution to oscilloscope usability, which was originally developed for the Infiniium and DSO6000 Series oscilloscopes, into the new series.

The DSO3000 Series is the latest of several significant oscilloscope announcements. In January, Agilent announced that it was shipping its new DSO80000 Series high-performance oscilloscopes, the first real-time oscilloscopes to break the double-digit GHz bandwidth barrier. In February, Agilent introduced its DSO6000 series, 12 models of DSOs and mixed signal oscilloscopes (MSO), which offer engineers a combination of key specifications and a display technology unmatched in the industry.
