Aquila Instruments, the Cambridge-based developer and manufacturer of high-performance spectrophotometers for thin film analysis, has successfully sold its first instrument in Turkey. The nkd7000 was purchased by the Istanbul Technical University, Department of Physics, where it is being used for characterising metal oxide films, such as V2O5 and TiO2 from 100-3000nm, deposited using sol-gel techniques.
Since installing the instrument, Aquila has received significant interest from several other universities in Turkey, with a view to the nkd7000 being used in a number of fields of study, including semiconductors. Some of this interest stems from the Aquila heated sample stage accessory, which provides users with the ability to characterise the optical properties of materials over a range of temperatures. This offers a promising opportunity for further sales in the region.
Aquila has also recently delivered a second instrument to the USA for a well-known blue-chip precision optics manufacturer. The nkd8000 will be used for measuring thin multilayer optical coatings in a development environment.
Aquila’s nkd range of spectrophotometers is distributed world-wide and used by many blue-chip companies for a variety of functions, from the development of multilayer anti-reflection coatings and filters to the process control of specialist glass. Aquila has recently merged with a company called Millbrook Scientific Instruments in order to strengthen its capabilities.
