Beamscope versatile linear scanner designed to measure beams

PRINT
BACK

The BeamScope™ is a versatile linear scanner designed to measure beams as small as 0.5 µm in diameter. When equipped with the optional M2 attachment (13 SKD 611), it can determine the quality factor of beams directly from a laser, and meets all of the critera set forth by the International Standards Organization for M2 measurement.

In the M2 mode, the laser beam is focused into the scanning head by an aberration-free lens, thereby creating a secondary beam waist. The lens is moved incrementally, in steps as small as 0.25 µm, moving the focused beam through the measurement plane. A diameter measurement is made at each step. The entire focused beam is mapped, accurately determining both its far-field divergence and beam waist diameter, and thus, M2. Using this data, the BeamScope can also calculate the divergence, beam waist diameter, and beam waist location (with respect to the BeamScope) of the incoming beam.

All BeamScope heads are available with silicon, germanium, and indium-arsenide detectors that collectively cover the wavelength range from 190 nm to 4 µm. Detector and slit configurations are easily changed in the field.

The BeamScope operates from a standard Pentium-class PC with a standard PCI Half-slot, operating in most Microsoft Windows™ environments. An optional Magma CB1H (13 SKD 813) is available to allow the unit to be used with a notebook computer.
