Custom manufactured, high-precision sapphire optics offered in a wide range of configurations including balls, lenses, waveplates, wedges, windows, and domes are available from Meller Optics, Inc. of Providence, Rhode Island.

Meller Custom Sapphire Optics feature flatness to 1/10th wave, thickness to within *0.000010”, parallelism to 2 arc-sec. in./in., and surface finishes to <0.5nm, with coatings that enhance transmission to >99%, depending upon thickness. Manufactured to specification, configurations can include balls, ultraflat windows and waveplates, plano-concave and -convex lenses, wedges, wedged windows, squares, and nearly hemispherical domes.

Providing diameter tolerances to *0.001”, depending upon size and configur-ation, Meller Custom Sapphire Optics can include balls from 0.005” to 0.5” dia., windows and substrates up to 18” round, and domes up to 6” dia. with precision mounting holes and/or steps. Sapphire optics exhibit Moh 9 hardness, second only to diamond, making them ideal for applications requiring greater durability than glass or quartz.
