Two new camera families - Basler Scout and Basler Pioneer - will be introduced at the Vision Show East in Boston, USA. The cameras feature Gigabit Ethernet and FireWire-b™ interfaces and are equipped with a wide selection of CCD sensors ranging in size from VGA to 2 megapixels.

The Basler Scout family:
The Basler Scout family is based on a selection of the best Sony CCD sensors and offers a wide variety of resolutions and speeds. Pricing and product quality will make the full range of advantages offered by digital cameras available to current analog camera users and will hasten the conversion from analog to digital cameras. With their new Gigabit Ethernet (GigE) and FireWire-b interface technologies, the cameras in this family are defined by state of the art technology that lets users get the maximum performance from each sensor.

The Basler Pioneer family:
The Basler Pioneer camera family is based on Kodak CCD sensors for exceptional image quality. Equipped with a GigE interface, these cameras take maximum advantage of the Kodak sensor technology and can often substitute for more cost-intensive Camera Link cameras. For more flexibility, this series offers additional software features that can be integrated into the image processing software on a remote computer.

Both camera families will feature a GenICam compliant API and will use new drivers. The FireWire-b cameras will also be compatible with Basler’s existing BCAM driver and API for FireWire cameras. Along with the drivers, GUI based software will be provided that lets users easily set camera parameters, adjust image quality, and control cameras from a remote computer. These camera families will be compatible with all common software libraries.
The cameras are designed for all machine vision and medical applications, as well as for use in intelligent traffic systems. The high quality exhibited by these new camera families, their excellent imaging results, their sophisticated design, and their attractive pricing are convincing arguments to join the "analog goes digital" trend. Henning Tiarks, product manager at Basler Vision Components, summarizes, “The Basler Scout family seems to be the first fully digital camera series able to compete in price with analog cameras and to beat them in versatility, image quality, and performance."
