Cladding of Cutting Areas with Polymers

The corrosion prevention of products out of steel sheets is carried out mainly by continuous strip galvanics and subsequent coil coating with polymers ("Duplex"-technique). The cutting and stamping areas, which result from further manufacturing processes, are insufficiently protected against corrosion by conventional methods like painting, lubricating, flanging of the edges and dip coating. Therefore, the aim is the development of a laser cladding process for the cutting areas using polymers. The optical design of this laser generated polymer coating has to be adapted to the coil coating. By combination of the two laser cladding processes zinc coating and polymer coating a duplex layer can be generated.
