Something which has been required by the market for a long time, has now been launched by ElektroPhysik: eXacto ® - a compact and smart solution for thickness measurement of paint coatings on steel or insulating coatings on non-ferrous metal substrates. Besides its precision, the small and handy gauge weighing not more than 200g, impresses through its ergonomic design. During the gauge’s development, however, ElektroPhysik has always been focusing on versatility and especially on precision. The "heart" of the non-destructive measuring technique is a smart magnetic-induction or eddy-current probe, which is integrated into the gauge - smart probe because it is able to detect automatically whether the substrate metal is ferrous or non-ferrous. According to customer requirements, ElektroPhysik offers three types of gauges: • eXacto ® Type F (magnetic induction probe) for measurements on steel • eXacto ® Type N (eddy-current probe) for measurements on non-ferrous metals • eXacto ® Type FN which has a dual function probe
Measuring range for the F model is from 0. to 3000 microns (120mils), for the N and FN model from 0 to 2000 microns (80mils). Measuring accuracy for all models is ±(2microns + 3% of reading); ± (0.08 mils + 3% of reading). For all gauge types, the measuring range is from 0...2000 microns. Measuring uncertainty is ± (2µm + 3% of reading). A data memory is available to store a maximum of 90 single readings or 45 block values. An other advantage of the gauge: statistics are a standard feature. Through the user-friendly menu single value statistics including the number of readings, mean value, standard deviation, min and max or block value statistics including the number of readings per block as needed (5...30), mean value and standard deviation per block are easily provided. For quality assessment, a limit function is available for monitoring user selectable tolerances as well as an alarm signal when exceeding such tolerances.
Last but not least: the gauge features a special housing to store calibration standards - thus calibration foils or a zero plate are always at hand for verifying gauge accuracy.
