K9APE® Machine Vision Inspection Systems are readily adapted for inspection of concave cylindrical products - such as automobile engine crankshaft bearings. Inspection can occur during or after the manufacturing processA crankshaft bearing consists of a steel shell that is lined with a soft metal bearing surface. The bearing surface is finished with a broach. Typical defects include excessive removal of bearing material that exposes the steel shell (No.3), chipped bearing surface (No. 4) and spalled bearing surface (No. 5).
Five new 2-1/2 inch (63 mm) diameter crankshaft bearings were mounted on a K9APE® Machine Vision Inspection System and the following images of entire concave bearing surfaces were obtained. Note, the aspect ratios and resolutions of the images have been changed to accommodate viewing here
