These machines are used today in many activities, such as the food industry or the chemical industry, and also in the environmental sphere (sludge from industrial and municipal water treatment plants).
When the solids content is high and the suspended solids show good sedimentation, centrifugal decanters can be used to carry out pre-clarification, concentration, washing, extraction and three phase separation (liquid-liquid-solid).

The strong points of Westfalia Separator centrifugal decanters are :
- Space-saving "piggyback" drive.
- All parts affected by abrasion are protected by either hard facing or cladding.
- All parts in contact with the product are made of stainless steel.
- Patent screw feed ensures a high transfer torque (dryness of sludge).
- All Westfalia Separator decanters can accept cleaning solutions (CIP).
- The machines can be explosionproofed, gastightproofed and made to run in an inert gas atmosphere if required.
