The University of Derby, Division of Biological, Forensic and Pharmaceutical Sciences, took delivery of the Prior Comparator system configured with stereo microscopes in August 2004.

According to Prior, the University selected the product because it offered a solution which was felt to be the most cost effective, flexible and robust therefore allowing them to make the product available to the Forensic Science student community within the University for both class teaching and research projects.

In the past they had found it very difficult to introduce comparison techniques into the teaching environment because of the excessive cost involved with purchasing such equipment. Thanks to Priors’ Comparator this is now possible.

“We are now in a position to allow the Forensic Science students to experience hands-on, the methods of comparator microscopy that they will undoubtedly need to use in their future careers as graduates” said Dr John Cassella, Head of Department.

“We have found the Comparator System extremely useful in a wide range of applications, including gun-cartridge, textile, and fingerprint analysis. We fully intend to incorporate the Prior Comparator into our forensic modules on the course in the future”, he added.

“We feel this product has become an essential part of our teaching and learning curriculum and the teaching staff and indeed students are pleased to recommend the product to others”.
