Digital imaging CCD camera system

Description

AMT created the first live-time, high resolution digital imaging CCD camera system for TEM in 1992. Since then AMT has become a leading supplier worldwide.

Our goal is to provide imaging systems that improve laboratory efficiency and productivity. This is achieved by using low noise camera heads with modern CCDs and fast readouts. Electronics and software complement the camera characteristics and are tuned to provide the most efficient TEM image acquisition.

We design lenses specifically for this application and these lenses offer outstanding resolution and sensitivity compared to alternate optical designs. A variety of mechanical interface configurations to match specific needs. Digital imaging systems attach either at the 35mm side port for wide angle viewing or below the viewing chamber for higher magnification work. Both side and below column configurations are compatible with pre-existing plate film cameras. Exposure settings can be matched to the plate camera so that no change to microscope conditions is needed to switch between digital imaging and traditional film.

Cameras begin with 1.3 megapixel (1280x1024) cameras and progresses to a 6.8 megapixel (2624x2624) format. All systems provide sharp images with high dynamic range and low noise. All AMT cameras have anti-blooming CCD hardware, which reduces or eliminates overflow of over-saturated pixels to their neighbors under intense illumination. Anti-blooming is very useful for diffraction imaging. Systems are designed with the highest performance, finite conjugate lens coupling.

All cameras are supplied as complete systems running on a high specification DELL computer.

AMT uses cameras and sensors customized for TEM applications by Hamamatsu Photonics. All cameras are thermo-electrically cooled and have negligible thermal noise level at TEM exposure intervals. These cameras have distinctive advantages in readout speed and image quality compared to competing systems. They also have the highest reliability. The cameras’ optical interface is specially designed for AMT’s high performance, finite-conjugate lenses. The high MTF and high throughput of these lenses are key reasons for the superior performance of AMT’s systems. Performance is enhanced further by AMT’s unique phosphor designs.

AMT has introduced two new configurations using new CCD sensors recently made available: The first is the XR60, which at 5 to 6 megapixels is the highest definition side-mounted CCD system available - and is the only successful “2k” side-mount system. The XR60 also has extraordinary sensitivity. The second new configuration is the Advantage ER, which is the highest sensitivity side-mounted CCD system. Both the XR60 and Advantage ER are now available in bottom-mounted configurations as well.
