Dismantling of defective in-core instrumentation thimbles must be performed due to limited number of parking positions inside the fuel pool. Due to the high activation level, cutting operations are allowed only under water with tools fitted on poles or by use of remotely operated equipment. The in-core instrumentation lance fingers are cut inside the fuel pool using hydraulic cutters; the shaft and the yoke are cut inside a separate and shielded basin on the reactor floor using hack saws. The cut segments are disposed of in preshielded waste drums. The use of standard 200 liter waste drums limits the size of cut segments
