Kimball Physics emitters provide a reliable source of electrons or ions for use in a variety of instruments including scanning electron microscopes (SEM) , transmission electron microscopes (TEM), probes, electron lithography systems, free electron lasers, as well as Kimball Physics electron and ion guns.
Many cathodes are resistively-heated, thermionic electron sources. Kimball Physics offers refractory metal, oxide, and single crystal cathodes: Ta disc cathodes, tungsten filaments, barium oxide, thoria-coated iridium filaments and cathodes, and high-brightness single-crystal lanthanum hexaboride (LaB6).
Cathodes are available mounted on a standard AEI base, or the more compact Kimball Physics (CB-104) base, or on a variety of bases for electron microscopes. Cathodes may also be mounted on customer-supplied bases. Most bases are high tolerance ceramic: pins are usually kovar, but may also be available in molybdenum (for field-free regions).
