Finisar First to Demonstrate 8Gb/s SFP Transceiver for Fibre Channel SANs and -40ºC to 85ºC CWDM Transceivers for Metro Networks

Sunnyvale, CA, March 7, 2005 * * * Finisar Corporation today announced plans to demonstrate an 8G Fibre Channel Small Form Factor Pluggable (SFP) optical transceiver, extending the company's leadership in Fibre Channel portfolio breadth. Finisar will also showcase the industry's first industrial temperature (-40ºC to 85ºC) CWDM gigabit interface converter(GBIC) optical transceiver. Both demonstrations will take place in booth #1641 at OFC 2005 in Anaheim, CA this week. Finisar is a technology leader and pioneer in gigabit fiber-optic solutions for high-speed data and telecommunications networks.
Capable of operation at the new 8.5Gb/s Fibre Channel rate, Finisar's 8G transceiver technology will be ideal for use in a wide variety of storage network applications such as Host Bus Adapters (HBAs), Fibre Channel switches and storage systems. Finisar's 8G SFP transceivers will be fully compatible with the emerging standards within ANSI/INCITS T11.

Also being demonstrated at OFC this year will be the industry's first industrial temperature CWDM GBIC. Designed to address the requirements of outdoor, fiber-rich architectures in a variety of telecom environments currently used to bring fiber closer to the home, office building or other extreme temperature locations, Finisar's CWDM GBIC is able to withstand operating temperature extremes of -40ºC to 85ºC while functioning at speeds up to 2.7 gigabits-per-second. The industrial temperature CWDM GBIC transceivers include Finisar's patented digital diagnostics, an APD receiver and CWDM DFB lasers available in eight wavelengths. All Finisar transceivers are enclosed in a metal package reducing electromagnetic interference (EMI).
