Goodfellow Introduces Adhesives Systems To Meet Specific Bonding Requirements
Goodfellow Cambridge Limited, known worldwide as a supplier of metals and materials for researchers and design engineers, has introduced a unique range of time-saving adhesive kits that contain the adhesive systems, consumables and technical information needed for successfully bonding a variety of materials.
“From the beginning, our objective in developing the kits has been to offer customers carefully selected and tested adhesive systems they can use efficiently and with confidence on specified metals, plastics, ceramics and certain porous materials,” states Stephen Aldersley, managing director of Goodfellow. “By providing customers with the right adhesive system and technical information for successful bonding, we’re helping them streamline an adhesive selection and testing process that could otherwise take them many hours.”
Kits and applications
The company has introduced five adhesive kits to date:
KIT 1 (Multi-purpose, long working life) – Based on an epoxy adhesive system, this kit is particularly recommended for use with ferrous metals, aluminium, copper, zinc, galvanised metal, ceramics, wood, PA/PS foams and PU foams. It is also suitable for acrylics, polycarbonate, GRP/SMC/GRE thermoset components, rubber, glass, quartz and precious stones.
KIT 2 (Multi-purpose, rapid cure toughened) – Based on a methacrylate adhesive system, this kit is particularly recommended for use with ferrous metals, aluminium, copper, zinc, galvanised metal, ceramics, wood, PA/PS foams and PU foams. It is also suitable for copper, GRP/SMC/GRE thermoset components, rubber, glass, quartz, precious stones and ceramics.
KIT 3 (Flexible adhesive) -- Based on a flexible polyurethane adhesive system, this kit is particularly recommended for use with ABS/PVC, acrylics/polycarbonate, glass/quartz, and plastics. It is also suitable for ferrous metals, aluminium, copper, GRP/SMC/GRE thermoset components, composites, PA/PS foams, PU foams and rubber.
KIT 4 (General purpose, fast bonding) – Based on a cyanoacrylate adhesive system, this kit is particularly recommended for most plastics, elastomers and rubbers (including PDM, NBR, SBR, nitrile). It is also suitable for difficult-to-bond materials such as PE, PP, PTFE, thermoplastic or silicon rubbers when combined with the supplied primer.
KIT 5 (General purpose adhesive) – Also based on a cyanoacrylate adhesive system, this kit is recommended for most substrates, but in particular porous materials such as wood, paper, leather, cork and fabrics. It is also suitable for acidic surfaces such as chromated or galvanised surfaces.
Contents of each kit
Each kit contains a carefully selected and tested adhesive system developed for specific applications, plus a range of items (cartridge gun, static mixer, surface preparation kit) recommended to ensure good bonding results. There is also a technical report, compiled by Goodfellow’s adhesive and polymer consultant in conjunction with TWI Ltd (www.twi.co.uk), that includes information on surface preparation, dispensing and application of the adhesive, instructions on how to use the kits and the results achieved using specific test samples.
