Crystalox pioneered the design and development of water-cooled Cold Crucibles and Boats for levitation-melting of highly reactive metals and alloys and remains an acknowledged leader in this field.
The standard Crystalox HCC50 Cold Crucible allows induction heating and melting of charges up to 100g without contact with the crucible, thus eliminating possible contamination from this source. The Cold Crucible can be operated over a wide RF frequency range, typically 100 - 200 kHz, with power levels of 10 - 15kW sufficient for melting of most materials.

Crystalox has also developed larger-scale crucibles and integrated systems capable of processing extremely pure materials at temperatures up to 2700º Centigrade. Specially adapted crucibles are also available for operation under UHV (Ultra High Vacuum) conditions.
