Handy Plant Efficiency analyser HAN.Handy-PEA

The measurement process starts with the placement of lightweight plastic leafclips at the measuring sites. The clips are suitable for use on a range of samples including broad leaved plants, grasses, needles and macroalgae.

The leafclip shutter blade is closed to prevent the entry of light and the clip left in place for several minutes to provide dark adaptation.

During measurement the PEA sensor unit is held in place on the clip. The shutter blade of the clip can then slid back to expose the dark-adapted leaf to the sensor unit. This contains both a custom array of red light-emitting diodes (LEDs) providing saturating light levels for accurate Fm determination, and a fast response, low noise fluorescence detector for accurate determination of Fo.
Handy-PEA is a compact, highly portable continuous-excitation type chlorophyll fluorescence analyser. It is particularly suitable for rapid, large scale screening of samples in the field or greenhouse in both research and teaching applications.

Its main specifications are the followings :

Compact (170x85x40mm), lightweight (565g)
Large-scale screening capacity up to 1000 full trace data files of any duration (0.1sec-300sec)
High time resolution detection (100Khz)
Interchangeable sensor unit cables with lengths of up to 20 metres
32 bit Windows transfer and analysis software.
The fluorescence parameters Fo, Fm, Fv, Fv/Fm, Tmax and area over fluorescence curve between Fo and Fm are automatically calculated and immediately displayed after measurement.
The analysis of these intermediate data points forms the basis of OJIP analysis more commonly now referred to as the JIP test.

Up to 6 measuring protocols may be pre-defined within the software and then transferred to the memory of Handy-PEA via bi-directional RS232 serial communications.
Saved data is transferred from Handy-PEA to the software via the serial link to the PC.

The Handy Plant Efficiency Analyser (PEA) has been developed in response to a need for accurate field measurement of the chlorophyll fluorescence parameters Fo, Fm, Fv, Tm, and the ratio Fv/Fm.
