Hyperspectral Imaging Platform Acknowledged For Innovation and Excellence

Fitchburg, Mass., July 13, 2004 - Headwall Photonics today announced that its Hyperspec™ VS hyperspectral imaging platform has earned the prestigious R&D 100 Award. The R&D 100 awards annually recognize the most technologically significant products introduced into the marketplace over the past year.

“We are honored to have been selected for this award,” said Larry Barstow, president of Headwall Photonics. “This is a testament to the outstanding work of our engineering team and it underscores Headwall’s focused achievement in the fields of nanophotonics and remote sensing.”

Sponsored by R&D Magazine, the R&D 100 Award winners are chosen by an independent panel of judges who look for products that exhibit uncommon innovation and engineering excellence.

All products within the Hyperspec family offer exceptionally high spatial and spectral resolution with a very large field of view and minimal image distortion. The products derive their industry-leading imaging performance from Headwall’s innovative hyperspectral technology that includes patented designs and the company’s all-original holographic diffraction gratings.

The Hyperspec VS platform is customizable to a wide range of spectral wavelengths with application-specific performance available in VNIR (400 nm - 1000 nm) and SWIR (900 nm - 1700 nm). Custom models are also available for many other infrared spectral ranges.

Hyperspec VS products are ideal for a wide range of applications, from military and homeland security to medical, commercial, and industrial environments. Traditional hyperspectral applications consist of remote sensing for environmental monitoring, battle-space assessment, threat identification, search and rescue, and fence-line monitoring.

Headwall Photonics also pioneers the use of hyperspectral technology for industrial process monitoring, non-invasive medical diagnostics, and food processing and safety.

“By offering high performance, cost-effective hyperspectral products, Headwall is enabling the deployment of hyperspectral technology into new and exciting application areas,” added Barstow. “Our ability to provide application-specific performance greatly enhances the value that this technology brings to our customers.”

Headwall Photonics leverages its expertise in nanophotonics manufacturing and engineering to produce a portfolio of application-specific wavelength solutions and optical subsystems for the analytical, life sciences, medical and telecommunication industries. The company is ISO 9001:2000 certified and maintains an extensive infrastructure consisting of Class 1000 Clean Room facilities. The company was founded in 2003 after a management buyout of the optical division of Agilent Technologies. Aside from extensive design capabilities that allow for rapid prototyping, Headwall’s products include application-specific single- and dual-beam spectrometers, custom “all original” holographic diffraction gratings, and high-performance imaging and non-imaging spectrographs. www.headwallphotonics.com
