Hg and ar calibration lamps for optical instruments
Ames Hg and Ar calibration lamps produce narrow visible and NIR line spectra. The very narrow, well defined, line spectra make these lamps an excellent choice for calibrating monochromators, spectrographs, and other optical instruments.
In first order the Hg lamp produces strong spectral lines from 254-579nm while the Ar lamp produces spectral lines from 650nm to 965.5nm. Strong lines from these lamps can be used in second and even third or higher orders to produce spectral calibration lines out to beyond 1 micron. For accurate spectral calibration beyond 650nm an Ar spectra line lamp is recommended as it has many well spaced lines in the 700-870nm region. The Argon lamp incorporates a long pass filter that blocks the short wavelength from the Neon buffer gas below 650nm, preventing their appearing in higher orders.
