Aculight develops high-brightness, high-power lasers for a variety of applications. In fact, we have pioneered a technique called Spectral Beam Combining (SBC), which combines multiple lower power sources into a single, high-power, high-quality beam. Using this technique, Aculight has combined 1,400 individual diode emitters to generate 26 watts of near-diffraction-limited light at 820 nm. To date, this may be the largest number of diode lasers ever combined into a single, high-beam-quality light source. SBC can be applied to fiber lasers, diode emitters, or to an array of any other laser type that supports the bandwidth requirements of approximately 1-10 nm. SBC technology provides an important stepping-stone for the use of diode lasers in applications such as laser projection displays, photodynamic therapy and as a pump source for fiber lasers. SBC could also enable the use of fiber lasers in applications such as materials processing that demand rugged, efficient, very high-power sources still capable of generating small spot sizes.
