Previously, the InfiniVar operated from 9mm to infinity; the new model provides virtually the same magnification—but from 18mm to infinity, easily permitting accessibility for tools and facilitating illumination from the greater stand-off. This means that many techniques can be utilized which were impossible from the previous InfiniVar model, including use of a Large Format Amplifier to cover up to the 35mm format. Further, the new InfiniVar CFM-2 is capable of two ranges of operation: infinity to 18mm (as noted above) and infinity to 55mm. The latter capability is achieved by replacing the standard (supplied) objective with the new LD Objective. The LD objective functions from 0-3.2x and provides somewhat higher magnifications at longer working distances. Refer to Optical Data (below) for exact specifications.
