The KAPPA company presents a new technology for surface measuring of honed cylinder running surfaces at the Control trade fair 2004. The honed structure of cylinder running surfaces is a crucial factor in the area of motor construction. Up to now the conventional fax film technique has been used to inspect cylinder running surfaces. The modern technology made by KAPPA uses a measuring rod with a digital camera, specific optical components and illumination modules. The coherent concept and especially the illumination assures a high contrast reproduction, even for different materials. KAPPA developed a combination of coaxial and diffuse lighting which provides results similar to the conventional fax film technique. The KAPPA system offers several benefits for the user such as low purchase price without follow-up costs for expendable items/storage of chemicals, shorter measurement periods and easy operation with low personnel expenses.
