The LM-101 Light Monitor system provides an efficient and cost effective solution for monitoring coating thickness in real time. It consists of the LM-101 Light Monitor, LM-101A/AS light source, and Detector assembly.

The system is compact and simple to install in nearly any coating system. It operates by projecting a modulated light beam on to a test glass or slide and measures either its transmittance or reflectance during the coating, depending on how the components have been configured. All components are external except for the test glass, so the system can easily be installed on even the smallest coaters.

Measurements of transmission and reflection are kept noise free by a chopper within the light source that is calibrated to the control unit at 200 Hz. This allows coatings to be measured accurately with no light interference from evaporation sources, substrate heaters, and ambient light
