DEA, well known throughout the world as a premier supplier of metrology products, utilizes a brand new non-contact scanning system for its own CMM line. These systems integrate advanced measuring sensors, which combine elements of optics, video and laser technologies, and image processing software, into devices that can rapidly scan complex shapes and surfaces and accurately gather dimensional data.

This system is designed primarily for use in the automotive and aerospace industries, and integrates a METRIS high-speed optical probe on a high-performance multisensor DEA CMM of the PRIMA and ALPHA lines.

PRIMA is a line of high-speed, high-accuracy DCC horizontal-arm measuring machines for the solution of a number of flexible gaging applications in production environments. The PRIMA CMM is available in either single- or dual-arm configuration. Its open structure gives optimum accessibility to the working area, and is unexcelled in the inspection of dies, models, car bodies, and machined components, where measuring inside details demands a good horizontal access to dimensions and features on any side of the part. The integrated dual-arm structure configuration of the PRIMA is particularly advantageous in some applications, such as car body inspection, where it combines excellent access to underbody and throughside apertures with high productivity rates.

ALPHA is an innovative line of cost-effective medium capacity gantry CMMs, which combines superior metrology performance with excellent operating reliability and reduced maintenance under all operating conditions. Several unique design features, a high-performance mechanical structure, the adoption of state-of-the-art components, make the ALPHA excel in high accuracy inspection of huge pieces and in scanning surfaces of large models. Its spacious work envelope accommodates large workpieces, features excellent access to part, and facilitates automatic loading/unloading operations.

This optical scanning system is powerful enough to gauge whole car body and aerospace fuselage sections in one step, and provides over 19,200 accurate data points per second, thus cutting measuring leadtime dramatically. The highly repeatable mechanical connection of the sensor to the PH10 index head and its compatibility with automatic probe magazines, guarantee an easy switchover from and to tactile probes without the need for re-calibration, reducing setup time to a minimum.

Dedicated software options, which include a full set of surface modeling and analysis tools, produce a point cloud model from the data, and integrates it for easy analysis, providing complete reverse engineering and/or dimensional control solutions.
For a superior measuring accuracy and long-term stability of the system performance, these systems feature advanced geometric error compensation, based on a fine mapping of the CMM full measuring volume in either a single or dual-arm environment.

All system components, including machine, software, controller, and probes, are engineered and integrated into complete proprietary systems optimized on the overall performance, and tailored to address specific manufacturing situations.
