Laser welding is a process that may offer advantages in comparison to other welding processes.
There are many welding applications, each with its own typical features. For that reason it is hard to give a general advantage but if one or more of the characteristics listed below apply in your situation, then laser welding might be an interesting alternative.
Advantages of laser welding system: High welding speed (up to 10 m/min, depending on laser power and material); Very low heat input (little or no deformation); Very good reproduction rate;· Strong and reliable weld; Esthetical weld, grinding is not necessary; Narrow weld with high depth/width ratio; Small heat affected zone, the structure of the material is hardly influenced; Welding in places that can not be reached by conventional welding methods; Any desired form can be welded; Flexible, changing of welding pattern is simple and quick; Can easily be automated; Industrial process, also in 24/7 production. Basically two welding principles can be applied, a scanner welding system (or remote welding) and nozzle welding system.
