Yaskawa’s Internal Permanent Magnet (IPM) motors are the perfect solution for gearless lifts/elevator drives.
The benefits of gearless drives include reduced maintenance, lower noise and a smoother ride. They also require less space and are essential for installations where there is no plant room in which to house the drive equipment.
IPM motors work by having magnets embedded within the rotor of the motor. This gives greater flux density and better distribution of the flux across the windings. This in turn delivers improved torque and therefore better control at low speed and a smoother ride.
The motors are also high efficiency and when coupled with Yaskawa’s F7S or L7S AC inverters, the resultant gearless drive saves substantial energy, reducing operating costs. Heat is reduced because there are no secondary copper losses in the rotor - the magnets, rather than a secondary current flowing in the rotor, generate torque.
Several types of IPM motors are available for lift/elevator applications including flat models and very high speed versions.
