Low-cost solution for forensic comparison from Prior

Prior Scientific have been manufacturing high quality microscopes in the UK for close to 90 years. In the last six months they have started to enjoy considerable success with a newly configured instrument for comparative visual inspection within the forensic science field.

“We saw an opportunity for a low cost solution for forensic comparison” said Prior’s Product Manager, Gavin Mills. “Establishments that teach forensic science often experience difficulties in justifying the purchase of a high grade comparator instrument running into many tens of thousands of pounds” he added. “Inevitably students learn the theory with very little, to no hands-on experience. Prior have recognised this issue and can now provide a system that allows on screen, visual inspection of multiple samples simultaneously for less than one quarter of the cost of a traditional system”.

The first systems have been commissioned at a number of establishments with further systems to follow before teaching recommences in September.
