MS 534B Spark Erosion Machine

PRINT
BACK

Spark Erosion (Electrical Discharge) Machining removes material by a series of discrete electrical discharges (sparks) that occur in the machining gap between the electrode and the sample. The Spark Erosion Machine cuts out samples from soft & hard metals and some conducting ceramics, without distortion or otherwise affecting their structure.

The Spark Erosion Machine has been supplied to National Research Laboratories, Industrial Research Laboratories and leading Universities throughout the World. The machining process is servo-controlled and the electrode is positioned using X-Y micrometers.
The safety features built into the machine make it safe for use even by unskilled personnel.

The machine is particularly suitable for cutting out 3mm discs from fragile and brittle samples because there is no contact between the electrode and sample distortion is avoided.

The Spark erosion machine is supplied as a "ready to use" system comprising:

Dielectric pumping system

Small sample mounting system - Sheet Holder, Slit Vice and Irregular Shape Holder

Collet for 3mm tubular electrodes

Pin chuck for small diameter rod

Set of miniature "G" clamps

A tubular electrode for trepanning 3 mm discs.

Optional: Spark erosion/electric discharge machining (EDM) using a moving wire electrode is ideal for accurately slitting and slicing all types of specimens. The moving wire helps to clear the slit of debris and is a continuous source of unused electrode material. This combination creates the conditions for producing deep, parallel-sided, narrow slits. In addition to metals, some electrically conducting ceramic materials can be spark eroded.
