The Minimum Essential Emergency Communications Network (MEECN) provides secure, jam resistant and survivable communications links between the National Command Authorities and Strategic Nuclear Forces. Rockwell Collins has been proudly involved with the MEECN since its inception, and continues to provide key elements of the network for the U.S. military. We were recently chosen as the prime contractor for Phase 2 of the Ground Emergency Minimum Essential Communication Network System (GEMS) program. GEMS will replace U.S. Air Force and U.S. Navy fixed and deployable communications for bomber, tanker, reconnaissance and other alert communications facilities and provide an upgraded networked infrastructure incorporating enhanced capabilities for aircrew alerting, message handling and the supporting communications links. Improvements include updated Extremely High Frequency (EHF)/Advanced EHF (AEHF) satellite communications and redundant Very Low Frequency (VLF) communication paths for critical strategic message traffic.
