The Split Field Optics Video Imaging System, "MIRAGE", allows two opposite corners of a large component and its corresponding pad area on the substrate to be viewed under high magnification. This is achieved by "shifting" the image's corners in the direction of the optical centre. Magnification as well as optical shift can be varied continuously, zoom factor 6x. For example, on a FINEPLACER® Micro, you can see the diagonal corners of a 60 mm x 60 mm component under max. magnification. Using ½'' camera and 14" monitor, about 17x, or 34x with additional 2x extender, can be achieved.

The "MIRAGE" system can easily be retrofitted without affecting the function of any existing viewing arrangement such as a stereo microscope. The optical overlay of lead and pad arrangements can be seen simultaneously on the monitor in split field view and, in stereo view, through the microscope.
