Exposure of the oxygen sample to a reversable getter after injection with a gas sample valve results in oxidation of the copper-based material, leaving the remaining impurities, i.e., nitrogen, argon, CO2, and methane, in the sample/helium carrier stream for analysis.

The GOW-MAC Model 75-900 O2 Trap’s detection limit for the impurities in oxygen, such as N2, Ar, and CH4 is dependent upon the detection capability of the detector in the gas chromatograph. The GOW-MAC Model 75-900 O2 Trap and the GOW-MAC Series 590 DID Gas Chromatograph have demonstrated the analysis of oxygen to the part-per-billion level.
