Sept 28, 2004 –Engineers can now develop their test, measurement and automation applications faster with National Instruments LabWindows/CVI 7.1, the latest upgrade of the stable and proven ANSI C development environment. LabWindows/CVI 7.1 introduces expanded integration with the NI software platform, increased design-time and run-time productivity and new user interface controls.

This new version of LabWindows/CVI seamlessly integrates with NI software platforms such as LabVIEW Real-Time NI-DAQmx 7.3 measurement services software and NI DIAdem data analysis and report generation software. Now with LabWindows/CVI, engineers who require deterministic and reliable performance can quickly create and debug DLLs in LabVIEW Real-Time for control applications.

LabWindows/CVI 7.1 also delivers a direct data management connection to DIAdem software for offline data analysis and report generation. By integrating these two environments, engineers can manage and analyse terabytes of data, going beyond the capabilities of standard spreadsheets. They can report test data for high-channel-count or high-sampling-rate data acquisition systems. In addition, engineers can combine LabWindows/CVI with NI-DAQmx 7.3 to program the new, next-generation NI M Series data acquisition (DAQ) devices, which deliver breakthrough improvements in accuracy, faster sampling rates, more I/O channels and a lower cost per I/O channel.

“LabWindows/CVI is a fundamental component of the NI software platform specifically designed for the long-standing ANSI C language,” said Tim Dehne, NI Senior Vice President of Research and Development. “LabWindows/CVI 7.1 extends the already tight integration with NI hardware and software products by providing seamless integration with LabVIEW Real-Time, NI-DAQmx 7.3 and NI DIAdem to deliver a more complete test and measurement solution to C developers.”

Engineers using LabWindows/CVI 7.1 can now create, debug and run TCP applications more efficiently with improved TCP networking and the added ability to access multiple network connections. The software features additional documentation, examples and enhanced error messages as well as Intellisense capabilities for developing code faster. Also, engineers can quickly create Internet-based applications with FTP, Telnet, e-mail and ping capabilities.

“We reduced our programming prototype and design costs by 1,000 hours at $100 per hour, or $100,000 using LabWindows/CVI,” said Ed Edelman, President of Ambient Weather. “No other ANSI C programming environment provides the array of features for Internet connectivity in test and measurement applications.”

NI LabWindows/CVI 7.1 also delivers an expanded user interface library featuring a digital graph and splitter control. With the digital graph, engineers can easily display and present their digital data. They can use the splitter control to divide their user interface into multiple sections to examine large amounts of user interface data quickly and easily.
