Metris, the market leader for CMM based 3D laser scanning, announces the release of Metris Scan 4.1 and Metris Scan 4.1 Offline. The Metris Scan software integrates the Metris scanning solutions with the CMM’s (Coordinate Measuring Machines). Metris Scan 4.1 offers the user enhanced accuracy and productivity and is ready to support the new upcoming generation of LC and XC scanners.

“This release offers a higher accuracy due to an improved qualification method that uses a new algorithm to accurately determine the different PH10 orientations and the scanner - CMM relation,” says Metris’ CTO Olivier Georis. “In addition the qualification time is reduced by a factor 5x since the new qualification method uses a much faster measurement strategy and the calculation time is significantly reduced”.

Another key feature of Scan 4.1 is the new ability to change camera sensitivity resulting in a better scan performance even with hard to scan materials.

Scan 4.1 also includes new point cloud handling tools:
- Rapid mesher for improved productivity (20x faster)
- Subtract and blend for data reduction and superior data quality
- Real-time filtering of XC50 scan data (inter-channel subtract)
- Assembly match to align multiple scan patches for better accuracy
- Curvature based smoothing for superior data quality

Metris releases simultaneously Metris Scan 4.1 Offline. This software module enables the user to create, modify and prove out part programs using only 3D CAD models instead of using the actual CMM hardware and waiting for real parts. The new Metris Scan 4.1 Offline module is compatible with the corresponding Metris Scan 4.1 online version and offers the same user interface thus facilitating the job for CMM operators.
