Prior Scientific Instruments are pleased to announce the release of a focus motor designed for use with the new range of Leica DM4000 and DM5000 upright microscopes. The motor itself is easy to fit and remove from the microscope requiring no disassembly of the instrument. These focus motors will work with either Prior’s OptiScan or ProScan ranges of motor controllers. The motor is mounted on a plate that passes underneath the base of the microscope stand and is clamped on the opposite side giving stable, vibration free operation. The mounting can also be adjusted in height to perfectly match the focus controls of different microscope stands. For the ultimate in precision, holes are provided for mounting a focus encoder probe. Use of an encoded focus drive enables the z-position to be precisely maintained regardless of environmental changes that can cause drift due to thermal expansion and contraction. Therefore it is essential for long-term time-lapse experiments. 3D De-convolution also requires extremely accurate focus positioning to allow capturing of thin optical slices, and an encoded focus drive facilitates this.
