New electronic hardware from Solartron enables simple networking of a variety of third party sensors with DC voltage or current output

The new Solartron Metrology Analogue Input Module (AIM) is a device that facilitates signal acquisition into Solartron’s Orbit network from most third party sensors featuring a DC voltage or current output.

The AIM hardware is especially useful when there is a requirement to monitor temperature, pressure, humidity, or other physical measurands such as strain or force. Third party sensors can be plugged into the Orbit network via the AIM and operated alongside Solartron’s broad range of digital displacement and dimensional measurement transducers.

For applications requiring a special interface, such as the PT100 temperature sensor, load cell or strain gages, the AIM digitising circuit constantly monitors the excitation voltage and corrects for any changes thus eliminating the need for a highly stable excitation signal.

The AIM is essentially a low cost, modular, single input, digitising signal acquisition device capable of high acquisition rates of up to 3906 readings a second. Simultaneous acquisition is also possible through the synchronisation feature of the Orbit network. Third party sensor readings can be acquired directly into a PC (via Orbit Windows Support Pack), PLC or Solartron DRO. Most PC applications such as Excel, Labview or a user’s own can instantly be addressed using the available Orbit drivers.
