Incorporating ultra-high resolution image intensifiers and no-compromise optical design the new SIM Multi-Channel Framing Camera from Specialised Imaging Ltd. takes the capture of images for accurate, high-speed spatial analysis of transient events to a new level.

Unlike traditional high-speed framing cameras the all-new optical design of the SIM provides the choice of 4, 6, 8 or even 16 separate optical channels without comprising performance or image quality. Effects such as parallax and shading, inherent in other designs, are eliminated and the high spatial resolution (> 50 lp/mm) is the same frame to frame and in both axes. Individual ultra-high resolution intensified CCD detectors, controlled by state-of-the-art electronics, offer almost infinite control over gain and exposure allowing researchers total freedom to capture images of even the most difficult transient phenomena. The ability to mount individual filters on each optical channel provides the SIM with uniquely flexible spectral selectivity.

As the SIM can be configured as a true 8 or 16 channel camera it can provide clear images of even the most rapid processes without the any of the artefacts associated with CCD retriggering or repetetively pulsed image intensifiers. Referenced to a 200MHz quartz crystal clock the SIM is capable of data acquisition rates of up to 200 million frames / second for all 16 channels providing the low nanosecond exposures necessary for the temporal dissection of very fast phenomena such as laser ablation, high voltage breakdown, combustion research, fluorescence decay, crack propagation, impact mechanics and nanotechnology applications.

The 8-channel version of this new system provides a unique supplementary port allowing secondary instruments (e.g high speed video, time resolved spectrometer or streak cameras) to share the same optical axis as the framing channels making the SIM the most versatile high speed imaging system on the market.

An integral TFT monitor allows users to 'see what the camera sees' in real-time, thus allowing users to easily optimise focus and lighting to achieve spectacular results. Focusing functions, can be controlled locally at the camera while full remote operation is achieved over standard Ethernet cabling enabling the SIM to be easily integrated into almost any environment. Optional fibre optic communications are available when the camera is used in electrically noisy environments. Comprehensive operational software provides simple control of imaging parameters and extensive measurement tools to accurately analyse results. Image archiving in a wide range of industry standard file formats is supported.
