New turnkey mixed culture assay reduces development time

Guava Technologies Inc. (www.guavatechnologies.com) have introduced a new turnkey assay for their suite of personal cell analysis systems designed to reduce assay development time and increase laboratory productivity.

The Guava CellPaint Assay allows users to conduct mixed culture assays with the sensitivity of single-cell based methods together with the throughput (96-well option) and ease of use of a microplate reader. The assay uses a cell tracking dye optimised for use on the Guava PCA and EasyCyte systems. Using the Guava CellPaint Assay users can differentiate cell populations more easily than traditional methods. This dye diffuses into cells and is retained without affecting cellular function. As a result the assay is more sensitive and specific than population-based tests as a result assay development time is reduced and laboratory productivity increased compared to traditional methods.

The Guava CellPaint Assay utilises the cell tracking dye only as a single color assay to track target cells within a mixed population for in vivo and in vitro applications. A second color can be added to perform a dual color assay on the Guava PCA systems for monitoring protein expression or antigen specificity; the two-colour mode is particularly useful for monitoring specificity of mixed cultures in the same tube, thus reducing the number of tubes or wells required to run the assay. On the Guava EasyCyte researchers can use two additional colours for monitoring protein expression or secondary markers. Incorporated in the turnkey solution Guava CellPaint software calculates and displays results in a table format that includes all relevant statistics for tracking up to two cell types in mixed cultures. The table displays cell counts, cells/mL, and MFI values for four sub-populations.
