Newport High Performance Windows Feature Low Distortion and Scatter
Newport Corporation has expanded their range of laser-grade windows with a new line of high performance windows featuring low distortion and low scatter. Specifically, these windows have a surface flatness specification of l/20 and their scratch and dig is 10-5. In contrast, the industry’s typical best values for standard product lines is only l/10 and 20-10.
These windows are intended mainly for use in research laboratories and R&D programs, in both laser and non-laser applications. They are also available in volume for demanding OEM applications that require low wavefront distortion, such as diffraction-limited laser-based microscopy. Typical laboratory uses include intracavity laser applications, holography and multiphoton imaging. Their low scatter is particularly advantageous in imaging applications where stray light can lower the signal to noise of the final image. Low scatter is also important in intracavity laser applications where scatter increases transmission loss and thereby lowers the overall Q for the laser cavity.
These new high performance windows are available in both BK-7 glass and UV-grade fused silica, and also feature excellent parallelism (< 30 arcsec). Standard diameters range from 1/2” to 2” (12.7 mm to 50.8 mm), with a choice of two different thicknesses: 0.24”(6 mm) or 0.39” (10 mm).
