Newport Introduces the Industry’s First Ultraviolet Refractive Beam Shaper
Irvine, California – October 3, 2005 – Newport Corporation, a worldwide leader in optical filters, optics and optomechanical components, today introduced the GBS-UV-H refractive beam shaper. Optically designed without an internal focus, making it ideal for higher energy pulsed and CW lasers, Newport’s new UV beam shaper, which is optimized for ultraviolet (UV) laser input at 248-365 nm, delivers efficient beam shaping that is required for many applications including material processing, micromachining, annealing, lithography, non-linear optics, optical data storage, and cell sorting.
“Newport is very excited to introduce the industry’s first commercially available UV Refractive Beam Shaper. This innovative new product was made possible only by using Newport’s proprietary, high-precision aspheric optics,” said Steve Peterson, Product Manager for Opto-mechanics and Subassemblies at Newport. “It is a truly unique product whose all refractive design enables customers to convert a Gaussian laser beam into a collimated flat-top beam with nearly 100% efficiency -- a 20-50% throughput improvement over alternative, diffractive solutions.”
The Refractive Beam Shaper produces a collimated flat-top beam by point-to-point mapping of the Gaussian input rays to redistribute the intensity to a flat top output. The collimated output beam can be easily manipulated and re-sized with conventional imaging optics. The device uses low dispersion refractive optics with high-efficiency dielectric anti-reflective coatings.
Processed in a Newport Class 5 clean room to eliminate out-gassing and particulate generation, the GBS-UV-H Beam Shaper is constructed of UV-safe components. For more information on the Newport’s GBS-UV-H UV refractive beam shaper, visit www.newport.com.
