The Olympus MicroBeam, based on the IX2 inverted microscope and a pulsed UV-A nitrogen laser, is a precise and versatile laser manipulation system for microdissection, laser induced microinjection, cell fusion, and "contamination free" removal of target cells and subcellular structures from sections, smears or cell cultures. Gentle, rapid, reliable and user-friendly.
With P.A.L.M. technology inside, the system employs the Laser Microdissection and Pressure Catapulting (LMPC) feature to allow the extraction of the target cells without any mechanical contact by gently transporting them over a distance of several millimetres against gravity, directly into a collecting device. This unique patented technology is highly versatile and very gentle:
The high quality of optics and laser allows extremely fine cutting without heating of the target structures. This "cold ablation" process leaves the sample unaffected without any impact on DNA/RNA or proteins. All kinds of specimen even chromosomes or cultured cells can be used No limitation to specific preparation methods: cultured living cells can be microdissected as easily as paraffin embedded sections.
Living cells remain viable for subsequent cloning and cultivation. Fluorescence illumination for parallel observation of fluorescence labelled specimen structures and Laser Microdissection and Pressure Catapulting is optionally available.
