The detection of imperfections in the applied adhesive bead and the monitoring of width, height and the cross-sectional area of a glue bead both serve to increase process safety in serial production. These tasks are performed by the new GBM Glue Bead Monitor whose camera can be set up easily at each dispensing nozzle. The ability to make very small measurements and insensitivity to the effects of daylight or secondary light are distinguishing characteristics of this system. In addition, the system is almost completely independent of component and adhesive colouring. Typical monitoring applications in automotive construction are glue beads on windscreens or flanged seam connections.
The system consists of the three main components: camera, analysis equipment and software. The profile and the position of the glue beads are captured using the triangulation principle. A laser diode integrated in the camera concentrates a linear laser beam on the contour of the glue bead. This red line serves as a basis for profile analysis. After optical processing the reflected contour is transferred to a chipby means of a monitoring unit. The measurement data is further processed with software, graphically portrayed and compared with adjustable reference values.
