Recognition in cluttered or noisy environment.The input of an optical correlation device is usually an image but can also be any kind of 2D data or 1D data arranged to form a 2D array. Together with this image, the reference image of the object searched for is also sent to the device for comparison. The result is a translation invariant correlation peak appearing at the exact position of the target. The height of the correlation peak gives information on the identification. There are as many correlation peaks as targets present in the input scene
