Laser beam sources are subject to unwanted thermal effects that can change the angle and position of the output beam during laser operation. Many laser applications call for a high degree of pointing stability. This can be attained in various ways, but measures to optimize the design of the laser beam source are expensive. An alternative is to construct a control system that will compensate for the fluctuations in the beam position.
